What is a Learning Difference?

The term learning difference includes any child who is struggling with learning, whether or not the child meets school requirements for having a learning disability or has been diagnosed with dyslexia, dyscalculia, or dysgraphia. A child with a learning difference is capable of learning, but he needs instruction that recognizes his unique way of learning and gives him the tools to overcome the challenges a learning difference creates.

Framework Learning supports any child who is having learning difficulties, whether the child has an official diagnosis or not. By providing struggling students with direct instruction in their area of weakness, giving plenty of opportunities for repetition and practice, and encouraging them to apply their learning to practical situations, we help children build a mental framework that prepares them for success.

Framework Learning can help you understand your child's learning needs in many ways:

  • When you contact Framework Learning to arrange a consultation to discuss your child's academic struggles, we can answer your questions personally.
  • If you decide to have your child evaluated at Framework Learning, the information we gather through interviews, reviewing records, and testing will give us a detailed picture of the difficulties your child is experiencing, and the reasons behind the problems. This information will be shared with you through a written testing report and personal conference.
  • In conjunction with the personal conference following testing, we will outline an intervention plan for providing instruction that will help your child close the gaps in his or her learning.
  • The instructional plan will include measurable goals that will be used to help monitor your child's progress. Throughout intervention, periodic conferences will be held to update you on how your child is doing. We will celebrate goals as they are achieved and create new goals to work toward. With your consent, we will share these goals and information about your child's instructional plan with his or her teacher(s).
  • If you would like our help in advocating for your child, Framework Learning is available to attend parent conferences or special education planning meetings with you. We can also review and clarify your child's individualized education plan (IEP) if he or she has one.
In everything we do, our goal is to foster your child's success through building a knowledge framework. We believe that your understanding of your child's learning difference and the special help he or she is receiving, at Framework Learning and at school, will also contribute to your child's success. Please contact us to arrange for your personal consultation—we will continue to provide you and your child with the tools and knowledge you need to overcome a learning difference.
